Every great adventure starts with a twist in the road...
For Jono and Vix, that twist came in the form of unexpected change, the kind that nudges you out of your comfort zone and into something new. With Jono having spent over 25 years in construction and Vix working as a psychotherapist, starting an outdoor rental business was hardly the next logical step. But what they did share was a long-standing love for the outdoors, a deep respect for nature, and a passion for creating experiences that bring people together.
What started as a love for camping quickly evolved into something much bigger when they discovered the magic of the Jimny and the even more magical Suzuki community that surrounds it. The moment they entered this world, they felt at home. Fellow Jimny enthusiasts welcomed them with open arms, shared knowledge, offered encouragement, and unknowingly gave Camp4x4 the spark it needed to begin.
The business was quite literally born alongside their youngest son, Maddox. As Vix likes to joke, “I gave birth to twins one baby, and one Camp4x4.” It was from that same creative, chaotic, love-fuelled space that this new chapter began. In honour of the family who inspired it, the first vehicles in the fleet were lovingly named after their children: Tayah, Elly, Olive, and Ox.
The Jimny, in all its compact brilliance, became a symbol of possibility. It reminded them that joy can be found in simplicity and that sometimes, the boldest, most unexpected ideas lead to the most rewarding journeys.
So Camp4x4 was born with a few vehicles, a lot of heart, and an obsessive attention to detail. From carefully chosen gear to extra touches of comfort and care, Jono and Vix poured their passion into every build, every booking, and every kilometre driven. It’s a business rooted in connection, curiosity, and the belief that adventure should be easy, soulful, and accessible.
They’re forever grateful to the people who took a chance on them in those early days and to every client, friend, and supporter who’s joined the ride since.
Camp4x4 is still growing, still dreaming, and still grounded in the same truth: the best stories start with a little detour, and a whole lot of heart.
